The Canons of the Fourth Lateran Council, 1215
Summary: In this council under Pope Innocent III, the name of the Roman
Catholic doctrine of transsubstantiatio, or transubstantiation is first used,
i.e. "he makes fire come down from heaven". It also continues to attack
Christians, forces Jews to pay a tithe to the Roman Catholic church, and forces Jews and Muslims
to wear a different dress.
Pope Innocent III at this time had already murdered many Christians
and started what became the Inquisition. His crusaders also sacked
Constantinople, the center of the eastern catholic churches. And Pope Innocent III
was the one that started the tradition of the symbolic meaning of the two
horned mitre hat used in the Roman Catholic church. This hat distinguishes
Roman Catholic bishops from the eastern ones.
The Roman Catholic encyclopedia calls him one of their greatest popes.
This time period is pivotal to history and part of God's prophecy.
